Imagine Mexico in the 1930s-40s? The Mexican exhibition at Svenskt Tenn 1939, etc.

Waldemar Sjölander (1905-1988) was a ”Göteborgskolorist” who trained at Valand and then moved to Mexico in the 1940s where he lived the rest of his life.

This portrait was painted in the coastal town of San Blas on January 10, 1948, 77 years ago. I love the simple naivety of his style and the large collar detail in the motif. Sjölander is represented at, among others, Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.

Condition: overall impression very good (vintage condition). Nice old wooden frame with some patina, creases in paper probably from previous rolling, see pictures.
